Very good product July 14, 2010 Federico (Princeton, NJ) I have a MacBook Pro, I plugged and formatted for Mac and I just love this HD.
It is silent, high capacity (1TB) and robust. Price is very ok!
Toshiba Trillion Byte Pocket Drive July 13, 2010 Dale Thorn (Charleston SC) I've wanted a trillion bytes in my pocket for a long time, and I wasn't disappointed with this drive. A reasonable price, very high quality, no noise at all, and reasonable performance. Powered by the USB interface and includes the standard USB to mini-USB cable. As good as this drive is, no drive lasts forever or is 100 percent failsafe, so be sure to buy a second drive eventually if not right away. Note: Using a laptop Windows XP computer and transferring a couple thousand MP3's, I timed the transfer rate at approximately 20.7 million bytes per second.
Plug & Play & does NOT need an external power source July 8, 2010 Gemelle (OC, California) This is my 2nd Toshiba Portable Hard Drive. It's simple, lightweight, small in size, and easy to use. It's a true plug and play device, just like a USB Flash Drive/Thumb Drive. The perk is that this can store 1 TeraByte!
It also gives you the option to set up an automatic data option. But you can also choose to just move files directly onto the drive too.
I transferred over 60 GB of data and it took 60 minutes to do it. So if you're always transferring big files around than this is not the drive for you. You may need need something like an eSATA drive Iomega 1 TB eSATA 3 GB/USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive 34280. But if you're looking for quick, portable, easy, plug & play storage drive, then this will work.
I'm still running Windows XP on my laptop.
Is this for real? Amazing! July 3, 2010 Michael Rothberg (USA) PROs

First, let me say that the total experience with this device is all of one day.
I ordered it on Thursday (7/1/10).
It shipped on the same day.
I received it the following day.
Shipping was free!
Couldn't get much better, eh?
OK, I honestly can't tell you much about durability or reliability since the MTBF and MTTR would have to be based upon 24 hours. Not a very large sample.
I can tell you,
1. I was shocked at the size. It is one tenth of the physical volume of an older Western Digital MyBook, and has four times the capacity.
2. There is no power cord. I searched. No power port. OK, so it gets its power from the USB port. Nice!
3. I backed up 25GB in 18 minutes. It took 47 on the older MyBook.
4. It ran absolutely silently! I mean SILENTLY!
5. I was able to use my existing Acronis backup software, unlike the Western Digital MyBooks which require that you use their software, or go through hoops to disable it.
6. I plugged it into the USB port and that was it. Done. Finished. No setup. No nonsense. It was recognized by Windows (XP Pro) and worked with no intervention. It was also formatted in NTFS.
So, am I happy? You betcha I am. If I learn more about its reliability, I'll let you know, but for now, it's just the best portable USB disk I have ever purchased. (and I have several ... some of which have failed and are useless; others which are now collecting dust.)
CONs

A longer USB cable would be nice, but it happens to work out well with my configuration. A little Velcro tape to hold it on the top of the computer does the trick.
If this proves to be reliable over time, it will probably convert me to Toshiba for the future.
Nice little thing with big capacity July 3, 2010 C. Kwan (Seattle, WA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Overall, this is a good deal. The device is small, light weight, and portable. You can carry around just like you carry an iPhone. When operate, the device is very quiet(well, you still can feel the drive spinning if you hold it in your hand).
The only small complain I have is that the cable they come with is a little too short. I guess they try to lower the impedance on the cable.
Another point, I try to make this become a bootable ubuntu drive but not success. The drive end up not writable until I reformat it(quick format). I guess this is not designed as a bootable device.
